What is EFT Tapping?

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques. It is an evidence- based, self help stress reduction tool, referred to as "EFT Tapping.”   It is a powerful modality that can be used anywhere and anytime once you know how to do it.

By tapping on specific acupressure points on the face and upper body while voicing our emotion, concern/issue, we are tuning into the negative patterns that we have formed around uncomfortable thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, feelings, or troubling memories. As a result, we reduce the intensity of the emotion or thought in the mind, and/or a reduction in the physical sensation in the body. 

We all have stressors such as anxiety, fear, anger, judgment, self-doubt, physical pain, limiting beliefs that may be affecting our life's experience. EFT allows us to find relief and to calm our nervous system, promoting healing around these issues that hold us back so we can live a healthier, happier, more peaceful life.

How does EFT work?

EFT works by sending a calming signal to the stress response center of the brain (amygdala), deactivating this response by lowering the stress hormones in the body, such as cortisol and adrenaline. Additionally, EFT incorporates a somatic (body based, body sensations), element with the body’s nervous system to bring balance and activates the parasympathetic nervous system for greater nervous system regulation and health.  

EFT is transformative by shifting the thoughts and beliefs behind our emotional experiences, helping us become more conscious of what is unconscious. EFT can rewire our brains so that we can change the way we think, feel and behave.

EFT can help with various issues including stress, anxious feelings, depression, pain, sleep problems, Trauma, PTSD, cravings, weight loss issues, substance use. fears and phobias.

From an energetic perspective, the idea behind EFT is that the cause of all negative emotions are a disruption in the body’s energy system. When the energy gets stuck in the body, symptoms appear. Moving the energy through the body’s meridian system by tapping while tuning into the source of the blockage, the symptoms (focusing on the emotional upset, blocking beliefs, or physical pain, for example), are neutralized and the intense charge greatly diminishes or disappears.

A Gentle Approach

Emotional Freedom Techniques is a gentle approach, where we are not trying to tap away that which is uncomfortable or what we don’t prefer, but an opportunity to shine the light on what feels true (unhelpful beliefs and thoughts) and allow ourselves to have the experience we are having, so it can move through. By doing this, we invite the possibility of our bodies healing and shifting our perception of our limiting beliefs/lives, as well as unhealthy patterns & behaviors.
